Dr. Manz, PhD, VMD
Dr. Manz has worked at Valley Animal Hospital since 1995. She grew up near Philadelphia, PA and obtained a BS from Pennsylvania State University in 1979. Dr. Manz also earned a PhD from the University of Washington in 1990. She is a 1992 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where she also completed an internship in medicine and surgery in 1993.
Dr. Manz has two dogs, Genevieve (Genny), a black lab; and Bingo, a dachshund. She also has a leopard gecko named Yoda. She enjoys Pilates, hiking, gardening, and hummingbirds. She is also busy volunteering for Akron Children’s Hospital and for various activities at her children’s schools.
Dr. Meves, DVM, MS
Dr. Meves has been at Valley Animal Hospital since June of 2002. He has been practicing veterinary medicine in Northeastern Ohio for over 25 years. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and completed the master’s degree program in food science and nutrition at O.S.U. His other interests include woodworking, mechanics, hiking, biking, and gardening.
Dr. Springer, DVM
Dr. Springer grew up in the Akron area and spent many hours volunteering at Valley Animal Hospital. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. In her down time, Dr. Springer enjoys running, hiking, and camping.
Dr. John L. Owen, DVM
Dr. Owen, a native of the Akron, Ohio area, joined the US Army after high school. He proudly served in Desert Storm, winning the National Defense Service ribbon. Once honorably discharged, he graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and started practicing with his father, Dr. Terry Owen. In 2007, he opened the doors to Howland Community Animal Hospital. This practice has a keen appreciation for orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, including knee and upper-airway surgery for canines and felines.
Dr. Mullen, DVM
Dr. Alex Mullen grew up in northeast Ohio and attended Hiram College. He is a 2007 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the OVMA and the AVMA. His clinical interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. He also enjoys golfing and playing volleyball.
Dr. Wendi, DVM
Dr. Wendi grew up in northeast Ohio and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College. She is a 1993 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Wendi has been practicing veterinary medicine in the northeast Ohio area for 23 years. She enjoys reading, jogging, biking, working in the yard, and spending time with her four boys.
Originally from Rhode Island, in 2001, Dr. Caires obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture at Purdue University, along with a minor in Biology and Animal Science. He attended Ross University where he completed his veterinary degree in 2005. He completed his clinical studies at the University of Georgia.
Married in 2008, Dr. Caires lives with his wife, Jaclyn, their daughters Eva, Kyla, Cora and along with their cat Pandora and dog Kelly.
Dr. Caires main interest is in surgery, dentistry, ultrasound and laproscopy surgery. He is one of our doctors that travels to all our locations to assist in surgery and in doing dentals and dental procedures. Dr. Caires also will do ultrasounds at our hospitals to aid in diagnostics. We hope that you get to meet him soon.
His other interests include the outdoors and working on his home.
Marsha has been an employee of Valley Animal Hospital since 2002. After completing her Bachelor of Science in biology and specializing in zoology at the University of Akron, she worked several years as an animal keeper at the Akron Zoological Park. She then completed her associate degree in veterinary technology at Columbus State Community College. Marsha has over 25 years of experience in the animal field.
Marsha has a pug named Baby Stella and a lilac point Siamese named Jasmine. She is a foster parent for Summit County Children’s Services and enjoys mothering newborns and toddlers. She has a passion for gardening and hiking, but her guilty pleasure is feeding the white tail deer and wild turkeys.
Marsha and her partner have adopted one daughter, whom they have enjoyed raising since birth. She is now the busy mother of a toddler, in love with life.
Meaghan has worked for Valley Animal Hospital for more than 10 years and has been in the industry for more than 18 years. Meaghan started her career as a groomer and worked for 8 years making dogs look beautiful. She then decided that she wanted to further her experience and education, so she attended the Stautzenberger College and became a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Her areas of interest are educating clients, dental health, and surgical assisting.
Meaghan is from Akron, OH and has two cats and two dachshunds (Pebbles and Chloe). In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, and gardening.
