Pet Dental Care is Essential for a Long and Healthy Life
Imagine that you’ve gone your entire life without seeing a dentist. Not a pretty picture, is it? If your pet has yet to receive a dental check-up and cleaning, then now is probably a good time. Pets need periodic dental care just as much as their owners do, yet we seem to think dental care isn’t necessary for them. Conditions like gingivitis and gum disease can lead to other problems that will affect your pet’s overall health, so be sure to stay on top of that. We want your four-legged family member to live as comfortably as possible for many years!
Signs Your Pet Needs Dental Care
It’s not always easy to know when your pet needs dental care. Bad breath alone is not an indicator of poor dental hygiene. Other signs to look out for include:
- Difficulty eating/chewing
- Red, swollen gums
- Decreased appetite
- Facial swelling
- Bloody saliva
- Excessive drooling
- Pawing at the mouth
We Recommend Routine Dental Cleanings
At Ohio Pet Vet, we know that a healthy mouth is the key to your pet living a longer life. This is why we recommend routine dental cleanings—to improve their dental hygiene, and prevent the build-up of plaque in the future. Our complete pet dental care protocol includes:
- A full oral examination
- Prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
- Consil (synthetic bone grafting material used in case of extractions)
All pet dental cleanings are performed while they are under anesthesia. We always suture gums following tooth extractions to prevent infection and promote faster healing. After your pet’s procedure, our staff members will educate you in maintaining their oral hygiene at home.
Keeping Your Pet’s Teeth Squeaky Clean
If you suspect your pet may need extensive dental care, reach out to us right away for a consultation. A thorough examination of their mouth is necessary for us to know how much work will need to be done. Once our experienced veterinarians have made an assessment, we can schedule a date and time for your pet’s procedure. Keep in mind that when they are under anesthesia, that is usually the best time for us to make a complete evaluation of your pet’s oral health. If we come across any issues that were not addressed during their exam, we will let you know.
Are your pet’s teeth causing you some concern? Call us right away at (330) 836-1971 for an appointment to get their dental hygiene back on track.
They are awesome! My dog Merlin knows who his groomer is and runs to the door every time. He doesn't even look back or kiss me goodbye.
My dogs look great! The best part is they had a great time.

Loved that Dr. Willard got all the way down on the floor with Lucy! I don't recall seeing that happen with any of my dogs' office visit. Thank you so much Dr. Willard, for your heart and time with Lucy.

The vets and staff here are amazing. I appreciate every single one of you and the treatment you provide to my pets.
Countless times I have gone to them with healthy or sick pets that mean the world to me. And every time they have given them all the very best care I could ever have asked for. And then some.
It is very apparent that owners made their expectations to the staff perfectly clear, because EVERY employee we encountered during our visits are happy, outgoing, compassionate, and friendly.
